The Global Mission Leadership Forum, Inc.

The mission of the Global Mission Leadership Forum (GMLF) is to organize and facilitate international conferences, colloquia, forums, educational programs, and publications focusing on issues of accountability in the conduct of Christian world mission.

book1The Global Mission Leadership Forum, Inc. has its roots in the Korean Global Mission Leaders Forum (KGMLF), formally launched in New Haven, Connecticut with the convening of an-invitation only gathering of fifty mission executives and academics from South Korea, North America, and Europe. The forum revolved around carefully prepared (written) case studies and responses on the subject of accountability in missions, setting the pattern for two subsequent forums.

The title of the inaugural book in the series was Accountability in Missions: Korean and Western Case Studies (Eugene, OR: Wipf & Stock, 2011).

The second Korean Global Mission Leaders Forum was held June 11–14, 2013. Sixty mission scholars, practitioners, and executives from around the world met for four days, once again in New Haven, to explore multifaceted, complex issues relating to missionary families. The resulting publication was entitled Family Accountability in Missions: Korean and Western Case Studies.

book3abook3bThe third Korean Global Mission Leaders Forum convened from November 3-6, 2015 in Sokcho, Korea. Seventy-six key mission leaders, missiologists and mega church pastors wrestled with the theme “Megachurch Accountability in Missions: Critical Assessment Through Global Case Studies” (Pasadena, CA: William Carey Library, 2016). (대형교회의 선교 책무 – 글로벌 사례 연구를 통한 비판적 평가| 두란노 | 2016-06-30 출간 http://mall.duranno.com /detail/detail.asp?itm_num=2040771469)

Prof. Andrew F. Walls remarked “This book is far more significant than its title may suggest. It is a missiological mine, from which readers may bring up valuable material, not only about megachurches, but also on migration and diaspora, multiple patterns of church and ministry, intercultural relations in mission, the place of Korea in World Christianity, South-South dynamics in mission, and many other topics”

The fourth Korean Global Mission Leaders Forum gathers From November 7–10, 2017 at the Kensington Star Hotel in Sokcho, South Korea.  Through twenty presentations and responses, discussion groups, and open forums, approximately eighty mission, church and institutional leaders from around the world wrestled with the theme “Migration, Human Dislocation, and Accountability in Missions.” The resulting books will be officially launched and dedicated in Korea in May, 2018.

Planning is now well underway for a fifth forum scheduled for June 11-14, 2019 at the Kensington Resort Jeju Seogwipo in Korea. The theme will be “Missionaries, Mental Health, and Accountability in Church and Agency Support Systems.” As with earlier forums, this one will publish the papers, responses and Bible studies in Korean and English books. By means of case studies and responses, this forum will examine a range of issues and approaches relating to fostering and effectively restoring missionary mental health in contexts of ministry. The continuum of mitigating factors likely to be touched upon by the case studies will include:

  • Personal (fatigue, exhaustion, anxiety, loneliness, stress, trauma, burnout);
  • Relational (family discord, marriage conflict, dissension, violence, abuse);
  • Social (isolation, losses, grief, stages of life, aging);
  • Medical (psychosomatic reaction, psychiatric issues, heredity);
  • Cultural (identity, cynicism, frustration, hostility);
  • Spiritual (guilt, rigidity of theologies, aversion); and
  • Organizational (systems of administration, accountability, expectations).
